BRANDON MATTHEWS
President
Brandon Matthews founded The Gray Pen Group with a vision of delivering exceptional construction management solutions through a focused, hands-on approach built on strong relationships, accountability, and a commitment to client success. With more than fifteen years of experience across construction, development, engineering, and project management, Brandon brings extensive industry knowledge and leadership to the organization.
Throughout his career, Brandon has managed and supported energy sector projects ranging from small-scale infrastructure improvements, such as breaker replacements and utility upgrades, to complex EPC projects and large-scale utility programs exceeding $200 million across locations throughout the United States. His experience provides a unique perspective on the challenges of delivering successful projects while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
Passionate about leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement, Brandon is committed to building strong partnerships with clients, industry professionals, and project teams. He takes pride in developing solutions that align with client objectives and delivering projects with the highest level of integrity and execution.
A Maine native, Brandon grew up in Winslow and now resides in southern Maine with his wife, Erin, and their three children, Grayson, Penelope, and Lennon. Outside of work, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, hunting, and exploring the outdoors.

ERIN MATTHEWS
Co-Founder
Erin Matthews co-founded The Gray Pen Group alongside her husband, Brandon, with a shared vision of building a company rooted in honesty, integrity, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the communities they serve. Together, they have worked to create a company that delivers exceptional results in the EPC space while maintaining the personal values that guide their approach to business.
With a degree in Business Management and Accounting, Erin brings more than a decade of experience in leadership, business development, and organizational growth to The Gray Pen Group. She plays an important advisory role within the company, supporting strategic initiatives, improving company processes and standards, and helping strengthen relationships with employees, clients, and partners.
Erin is passionate about continuous improvement and finding opportunities to help the company evolve while staying true to its mission and values. Her leadership, insight, and dedication contribute to the continued growth and success of The Gray Pen Group.
Erin and Brandon reside in southern Maine with their three children, Grayson, Penelope, and Lennon. Outside of work, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, creating memories together, and making the most of time spent exploring all that Maine has to offer.

PAUL HAROLDSEN
Chief Financial Officer
Paul Haroldsen brings extensive financial leadership and business expertise to The Gray Pen Group. As Chief Financial Officer, Paul provides strategic financial guidance, supports organizational growth, and helps ensure the company’s financial operations align with its long-term goals.
A Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Paul earned his MBA from Sacred Heart University and his Accounting degree from Husson University. Throughout his career, he has applied his financial expertise to support the success of organizations including Mobil Oil, Tyco, and Jøtul North America. His experience spans financial management, operational improvement, and leading teams through growth and organizational development.
Paul is passionate about helping companies improve performance, develop strong management practices, and build sustainable paths toward profitability. His analytical approach and business insight provide valuable support as The Gray Pen Group continues to grow and expand within the EPC industry.
Paul and his wife have called Kennebunk, Maine home for more than 30 years, where they raised their three children. Outside of work, Paul enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors through biking and hiking.

LIAM MCALLISTER
Director of Project Management
Liam McAllister brings experience in electrical construction, project management, and business operations to The Gray Pen Group. With a background working in multiple startup environments, Liam has developed the adaptability and problem-solving skills needed to take on diverse challenges and provide value within a growing organization.
As Director of Project Management, Liam supports projects throughout the full lifecycle, coordinating with field teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders to help ensure successful execution. His responsibilities include project documentation, financial and data tracking, contractor coordination, and supporting the configuration and ongoing improvement of The Gray Pen Group’s financial and project management systems.
Liam is passionate about business strategy, technology, and finding innovative ways to improve processes and efficiency. His ability to combine technical knowledge with an operational mindset allows him to help strengthen systems and support the continued growth of the company.
Liam currently resides in southern New Hampshire with his fiancée. Outside of work, he enjoys spending his free time working on cars, and watching and playing sports.

MIKE REED
Project Manager
Mike brings nearly two decades of experience in management, leadership, operations, and project execution to The Gray Pen Group. As a Project Manager, he oversees projects from design and procurement through construction and commissioning, working closely with clients, engineering teams, utilities, contractors, and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.
Known for delivering complex projects on time and within budget, Mike plays a critical role in coordinating on-site crews with engineering and project teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, compliance, and client expectations. His responsibilities include equipment procurement, vendor and subcontractor management, contract review and negotiation, schedule and budget management, risk assessment, and supporting continuous improvement of company processes and best practices.
Before joining The Gray Pen Group, Mike served as an Executive Team Leader at Target Corporation, where he managed operations for a team of more than 200 employees in a fast-paced environment. His background in leadership, problem-solving, and operational efficiency has shaped his ability to navigate complex challenges and build strong relationships with teams, vendors, and project partners.
Mike utilizes tools including Acumatica ERP, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Excel to support project planning, cost control, forecasting, and reporting. Outside of work, he enjoys video game design and development and is always looking for a new challenge to take on.

DYLAN JANOSIK
Project Manager
Dylan brings experience in personnel management, project coordination, and client relations to The Gray Pen Group. After graduating from Lasell College with a degree in Marketing, Dylan transitioned into the technology industry, where he developed valuable experience working with clients at all levels of an organization while managing multiple departments and coordinating teams across different time zones and countries.
Dylan later earned his Certificate of Project Management through Cornell University, further strengthening his ability to lead projects, manage schedules, and support successful project execution. His background in communication, organization, and team coordination provides a strong foundation for managing complex projects and building effective relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
At The Gray Pen Group, Dylan supports projects throughout the full lifecycle, from the bid process and contractor schedule management through construction coordination and project completion. He is focused on maintaining alignment between project stakeholders while helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and successfully.
Dylan resides in southern Maine with his wife and three children. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his personal interests.

BILLY SCHINZEL
Construction Manager
Billy Schinzel brings decades of hands-on construction experience and field leadership to The Gray Pen Group. With a strong background in construction operations, safety practices, and project execution, Billy provides valuable boots-on-the-ground expertise that helps ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
As a Construction Specialist, Billy oversees and coordinates construction activities and contractor teams, focusing on safety, project scope, scheduling, and quality execution. His practical approach and deep understanding of field operations allow him to effectively bridge the gap between project planning and on-site implementation.
Prior to joining The Gray Pen Group, Billy owned and operated his own construction company, gaining extensive experience managing teams, coordinating projects, and navigating the challenges of delivering successful construction outcomes from start to finish. His leadership, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety are key contributors to the success of Gray Pen projects.
A Maine native, Billy continues to call Maine home, where he lives with his wife, two young daughters, and their black lab. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors through hunting and fishing, as well as playing golf and making the most of time with his family.

KYLIE RICHARDS
Assistant Controller
As Assistant Controller at The Gray Pen Group, Kylie Richards works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support the company's financial operations and ensure the accuracy of its accounting processes. She assists with monthly financial reporting, manages accounts payable and receivable, monitors cash flow, maintains accounting records, and oversees a variety of human resources functions.
In a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same, Kylie balances accounting, payroll, HR, and financial reporting responsibilities while contributing to long-term initiatives focused on tracking project and overhead costs. She regularly utilizes Acumatica and Microsoft Excel to hep keep the company's financial operations running efficiently.
Kylie graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Marketing. Before joining The Gray Pen Group, she spent several years in the hospitality industry as a server and bartender before transitioning to the insurance field, where she worked in disability insurance at Unum.
Outside of work, Kylie lives in southern Maine with her partner and their dog. She enjoys cooking, traveling, and discovering new restaurants throughout Portland.

SHANE RILEY
Project Manager
Shane Riley brings experience in electrical construction, renewable energy, estimating, and project management to The Gray Pen Group. With a background in both electrical estimating and project execution, Shane has developed a strong understanding of the technical, financial, and operational aspects required to successfully deliver complex utility-scale projects.
As a Project Manager, Shane oversees utility-scale solar projects from design and procurement through construction, commissioning, and closeout. He coordinates engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, utilities, and project stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. His responsibilities include project scheduling, budget management, procurement coordination, contract administration, change order management, risk assessment, and client communication.
Prior to transitioning into project management, Shane gained valuable experience preparing estimates for commercial and utility-scale electrical projects, reviewing plans and specifications, developing bid packages, and evaluating project costs. This estimating foundation provides him with a unique perspective when managing project budgets, identifying risks, and developing solutions to keep projects moving forward.
Shane utilizes tools including Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Acubid, and Microsoft Office Suite to support project planning, documentation, cost tracking, and communication. His expertise in utility-scale solar construction, electrical infrastructure, procurement, and stakeholder coordination allows him to effectively navigate complex projects and support successful outcomes for clients.
Shane resides in southern Maine with his wife and two children. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his personal interests.

DANIELLE SCHINZEL
Office Manager
Danielle Schinzel serves as Office Manager at The Gray Pen Group, providing essential operational and administrative support that helps keep the organization running efficiently. With a strong focus on organization, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving, Danielle plays a key role in developing processes, maintaining company records, and supporting the day-to-day needs of a growing organization.
Her responsibilities include managing office operations and administrative systems, maintaining corporate records and compliance documentation, coordinating company vehicle registrations and insurance policies, overseeing company credit cards and expense documentation, managing cell phone plans and vendor relationships, and supporting internal initiatives such as employee documentation, marketing materials, and company resources. Danielle also works closely with leadership and financial professionals to help ensure the company’s administrative and operational needs are effectively managed.
Known for her reliability, organization, and commitment to the company’s success, Danielle approaches each responsibility with the company’s best interests in mind. Her ability to create structure and manage the many details behind the scenes allows the team to remain focused on delivering successful projects for clients.
Danielle lives in Maine with her husband, two daughters, and their black lab. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, dancing, camping, exploring the outdoors, and making the most of all that Maine has to offer.
